In 2022 with support from the Co-operators, the Circular Opportunity Innovation Launchpad, COIL, launched the Zero Waste Economic Transformation Lab, ZWETL, aimed at replicating the successful strategies in the food sector out to other parts of the economy, starting with Construction, Renovation and Demolition (CRD) materials. As the first step of this work, ZWETL undertook both a material flow analysis of CRD materials across Guelph and Wellington County, as well as an analysis of the economic, cultural and policy influencers that lead to the creation of CRD waste.

The Zero Waste Economic Transformation Lab is continuing as part of the City of Guelph’s Solid Waste Resources division advancing priorities outlined in Guelph’s Solid Waste Management Master Plan.
